I like that I can use the pulse button on the front and directly fill the re-usable filter basket for the Keurig brewer. This allows me to use what ever coffee brand I want, cheaper and without all of the waste of the prepackaged waste of the K-Cups. The grind can be adjusted perfectly with a wide range of settings.

Comments about Baratza Baratza Maestro Plus (G385):

Grinder seems to work pretty solidly, but it is noisy. My wife has threatened to throw it out the window. The timer knob on the right could have/should have been designed better. It falls out occassionally due to a push fit and because there are no clicks in the mechanism, it's impossible to get accurate/consistant results.

very easy to change grind settings. From very fine to coarse. Simple rotate the hopper to desired number and turn the switch. the lowest setting is a very fine grind and makes great espresso. Only downside is that it is noisy and scooping can be messy. But these gripes are minor.

Comments about Baratza Baratza Maestro Plus (G385):

I have used it just about everyday for the last six months. It took a little bit of experimenting to correlate the mechanical timer dial to the amount of coffee I wanted. Now I just turn it where I want it, fill up my carafe while it's grinding and come back to pour the grinds into the basket and the water into the coffee maker. Using a Bunn, I have fresh coffee in about 4 minutes. It's easy to clean and switch from one type of coffee to another. I had a problem with the timer knob falling off, but they sent me a new one with improved tolerances and have had no problem since then. I can only compare it to a blade grinder which I stopped using years ago because of the effort in using it. A bit noisy, but only for 10-15 seconds.

Comments about Baratza Baratza Maestro Plus (G385):

I've owned a number of (mostly Italian) coffee grinders over the years and the Maestro Plus grinds with the best. The grind settings are repeatable and the burrs seem to be of excellent quality. The machine is easy to disasemble and cleaning is a snap.

There is one small drawback to the Maestro, however. It's made for a price point (in China) and the mechanical construction isn't as sturdy as some of the old Italian grinders which are made like a 1936 Chevy.

I had a problem with mine two weeks out of the box. It was a cold soldier joint that cause the unit to cut off. I took it back to the manufacturer and they fixed it while I waited. Customer service is great with this machine. It lasted for another six months and is now starting to do the same thing. When I take it back I will ask them to replace the entire circuit board and that should fix the problem.

Overall, however, I am most pleased with this machine, both for coffee and expreso grinds. For the price, you can't beat it!

Comments about Baratza Baratza Maestro Plus (G385):

I just drink drip coffee, no espressos etc. For 25 years I've used an indestructible Krupps blade grinder. I was happy enough in my ignorance. Since springing for the Baratza Maestro Plus, I am amazed at how smooth my coffee's flavor has become. Plus the flavor is consistent from day to day. I'm drinking my coffee black and digging it. My wife uses cream in hers and loves the flavor difference, too.

I think that the grinder's clean design looks great in the kitchen. It is simple as pie to operate and clean. Folks who comment about the noise that this grinder makes are dreaming if they think their going to get a low muffled sound from beans being crushed by steel burrs (at this price, anyway). If the noise bothers you, you could try decoupling the grinder from the counter top by placing it on a rubber mat. But really, it's not that bad. Our cat doesn't like the sound, but he hated the Krupps grinder, too. :o)

Comments about Baratza Baratza Maestro Plus (G385):

I use this grinder every day. We entertain a lot, and we can make French press, Auto-drip, Expresso, etc. by easily changing the grind, which is wonderfully consistent. Measuring is a snap with the pulse button on the front to "top-off" an otherwise less that sufficient amount ground. If you want a simple, but versatile, heavy, rock-solid, bullet-proof coffee-grinder, this one is it! Worth every penny we paid for it.

Bottom Line:

Comments about Baratza Baratza Maestro Plus (G385):

The grinder provides near-commercial quality coffee grinding. I find there are a few larger particles toward the end of the grind. Given the weight of the grinder, I thought the sound level would be lower, but all electric powered coffee grinders are noisy. The grinder mechanism is easy to access and clean - although I don't think it needs much of the latter. The timer handle has fallen off several times during the grind cycle - it's not a very snug fit on the timer shaft - not a big deal but then this is not an inexpensive grinder either. I know my coffee - I worked for a very large coffee company for 11 years.

I use it mostly for espresso and it has had a great consistent grind so far. Have had the grinder for a few months now and it is perfect. The only minor thing was that the grinding knob sometimes will vibrate off, and just has to be pushed back on. I thought about gluing it, but it was no big deal so I just push on it every now and then while grinding to insure it stays on.
Very consistent grind. I grind on 17 for paper cone filter and it is a very fine grind. Pure powder can be achieved for those wishing it.

Comments about Baratza Baratza Maestro Plus (G385):

Replaced Solis Maestro with this- big mistake. The grinder is only used for espresso, and this one does a miserable job.

My shots have gone from 25-27 seconds with beautiful crema and rich taste to 10 second shots with acrid flavor and a disappearing crema. I have tried all grind levels/tamping styles multiple times and it is truly inconsistent.

Too bad the Solis wore out :( This was a waste of money and a sad representation of where this company has taken this line of grinders.

Comments about Baratza Baratza Maestro Plus (G385):

I got this product a few weeks back and it is true what they say, a great, fresh grind makes all the difference in the world. I've found this grinder to be very quiet and have a very consistent grind. We use it for espresso, but may use it for drip when we're feeling lazy or in a hurry. The main plus is it's ability to grind directly into the portafilter (bypassing the need for the plastic container). The only con is that when doing this, it is generally a tad messy and even more messy when there is only a small amount of beans in the hopper. A directing shoot would have be a nice attachment. Other than that, I highly recommend this grinder.

I bought this in conjunction with a La Pavoni manual espresso maker and I feel as if I am getting the best coffee ever from my home kitchen.

Comments about Baratza Baratza Maestro Plus (G385):

I use it every day. The grinder is heavy and stable and you can pull the large receptacle out of it, filled with coffee, without having to hold the grinder. The hopper is large too, which is a plus. You can fine-tune the grind fairly easily. I use a Keurig filter with a Breville coffee maker and found that a grind that is too fine leaves too much sediment and a grind that is too coarse leaves the coffee too weak. But the Baratza grinder allows you to grind so that it provides strong coffee without leaving significant sediment. It is noisy, but fast, so the noise is not really something that bothers me. But some people might find it a disadvantage.
